Build your own PMA !!
Have you got an old Delco 10SI or 12SI alternator lying around in the garage?? This Permanent Magnet Rotor will convert it to a PMA alternator for use as a wind generator or whatever else you want. This is the same rotor that we put in our "DC series" alternators and we realize not everyone has the money to buy one of our complete units but at this price you can afford to give alternative energy a try by building your own PMA from the parts you have lying around in your garage. You could also pick up a used Delco 10SI or 12SI from a salvage yard for under $25.00 and have a go at it.
The rotor is the most Expensive and Labor Intensive part of a Permanent Magnet Alternator. We have tried all different types and combinations of magnet setups and feel we have come up with the best design on the market. Our N40 Grade Neodymium magnets are custom made to our specifications to provide the best performance with virtually no cogging effects. Cogging is the "thump-thump-thump" you feel when you turn the shaft of a Permanent Magnet Motor or Generator. It is similar to the feeling of holding a socket wrench in your hand, while turning the ratchet. "Homebuilt" or poorly designed rotors, such as those in the "SC" Super-Core PMA alternators you see sold on the net, tend to have such a strong cogging effect that they are not suitable for wind turbines because it takes to much force to start them turning and overcome the cogging. Our units on average only require 1.5 in/lbs to get them turning with no appreciable cogging. |
