How To Build Your Wind Generator

I'm ready to build my wind generator! How do I do that? In this section we will provide you with a detailed guide about how you can build a wind generator.

Today's wind generators are becoming increasingly more affordable. At Wind Blue Power you can build your own wind generator to help reduce your energy dependence by using one of our kits, or purchasing parts separate to build a custom unit. These separate parts are also great for repairs and modifications to your existing wind generator.

Small Wind Generators generally consist of a rotor, a generator or alternator mounted on a frame, a tail, a tower, wiring, and the controllers, rectifiers, and/or batteries. Through the spinning blades, the rotor captures the kinetic energy of the wind and converts it into rotary motion to drive the generator.

If you plan on purchasing one of our Breeze kits, you will have all the parts and instructions that you will need to build your wind generator. Here are the basics of how to assemble a wind generator!

Before you begin building your new wind generator ensure you have all the necessary components. For a battery based wind system you'll need an alternator, we recommend a permanent magnet alternator (you can purchase one already put together, or purchase separate parts and build you own) a rotor and mount kit, the External Rectifier connection kit, charge controller, and the appropriate mounting hardware. You'll also need batteries, and a place or tower to mount your wind turbine.

If building your own PMA, you'll need an alternator, a PMA rotor and stator in addition to the other parts.

The type of PMA you will need will depend on your average wind speed. Refer to the Learn About Our Products section to determine which PMA is correct for you. Once you have obtained the proper alternator, the first step is to connect the rotor to the alternator, using the mount kit. The rotor blades will spin in the air, and transfer the kinetic wind energy to the alternator to be converted into usable electricity. We recommend the TLG WindPower Cy-Clone Rotor and Tail Vane and our Mount Kit. This kit provides all the necessary components to properly attach the rotor to the alternator.

The battery should be connected to the rectifier and the charge controller using our hardware kits. Refer to the Learn About Our Products Section to determine what hardware materials you will need. The wiring required to connect the parts can be run though your tower, to hide any wires and protect them from the elements. Our  External Rectifier connection kit includes all the wiring materials you need to properly connect the components of your wind turbine.

With all your components installed properly, you are ready to generate your own power next time the wind blows.
