Electricity and Battery PowerJust some background information about electricity and battery power we thought we'd share with you! There are two types of wind turbine systems, off-grid systems and grid-integrated systems. Off-grid wind systems use battery banks stored energy to produce electricity. Grid-Integrated wind systems are connected to your local energy grid, and sometimes include battery backups, to provide electricity when it it not windy. Wind Blue Power specializes in off-grid, battery based systems. Off grid systems are usually more affordable, and people generally choose these systems because their home or other energy use is not connected to the grid, and connection would be expensive. Others prefer the independence of off-grid systems, or live where utilities and governments make it difficult to tie a renewable energy system to the grid. While inexpensive and convenient, off-grid systems are limited in capacity by the size of the wind turbine, the wind speed, the battery bank size and other resource availability. Off-grid wind system homeowners have to learn to live within the limitations of their systems capacity. For this reason, most people use their wind turbine to provide power during a blackout, or supplement their energy use, eliminating at least some of the cost of non-renewable energy. Off-grid systems are also used to power smaller devices and cabins. The Battery Bank installed in your off-grid wind system will store energy in batteries, allowing electricity to be produced even when it is not windy. Most battery banks are large enough and can store enough energy to keep your household running for one to three calm days. Our battery based wind systems are designed for low wind areas, which helps maximize the amount of electricity generated by calm winds. Grid connected wind systems with battery backups can be ideal if your local rules and bank account allow, because you have the unlimited capacity of the grid at your disposal, and you can send your surplus wind energy to the grid. When the grid is down, you can still use your system, within the limitations of the battery bank and turbine. Shop For Shop For Wind Generators > < Back To Wind Blue Power Learning Center |
