Charge ControllersWhat exactly are Charge Controllers?A charge controller or regulator is vital for any wind turbine used to charge a battery bank. The primary function of a wind turbine's charge controller is to protect the batteries from overcharging. Charge controllers monitor the batteries and when the battery is fully charged, the controller sends energy from the battery to a dump load which dissipates excess power to prevent it from over-charging the batteries. When the battery voltage is measured to have fallen back below a set threshold the dump load will be turned off and battery will begin to charge again. Many wind generator charge controllers are built into the same box as the rectifiers. Overcurrent protection is needed between the battery and dump load. Wind Blue Power offers 2 charge controller models to choose from to ensure your wind turbine operates properly. The Morningstar 45 Charge Controller is part of the advanced TriStar line of quality products. This charge controller is an affordable option for use with our WindBlue DC-540, DC-520 and DC-512 PMAs. This charge controller is a three-function controller that provides reliable solar battery charging, load control or diversion regulation and features Field adjustable voltage and battery set points This product will ensure your batteries are always charged, provide protection against short-circuit, overload, over temperature and reverse polarity conditions. If you are using our WindBlue DC-540 or DC-520 PMA's, the SES Flexcharge NC25A 12 Volt Ultra High Efficiency Charge Controller is the ideal charge controller for wind generator. This charge controller is designed for alternative energy charging systems, including wind power, and works well with 12 volt batteries. The NC25A charge controller features easy to read charge and divert indicators, an adjustment for peak charge voltage, and an easy to use terminal strip for the system wire connections. < Back To Wind Blue Power Learning Center |
